A Journey of Joy, Growth, and Dance: Evie’s Story

Over a year ago, during an Easter event in Bateau Bay with our friends at Performability, we crossed paths with someone truly special, a delightful young girl named Evie, and her equally wonderful mum, Carrie. That day felt like a twist of fate, the kind that brings the right people together at just the right moment.

Some of our Tribe crew were present at the event, helping out, laughing, dancing, and doing what we love most — supporting people in the community. Carrie had never worked with support workers before, but after seeing firsthand what we do, she opened up to the idea. We offered our support if ever she needed it, putting our hearts forward, not just our best foot forward. That was the beginning of something beautiful.

What followed has been nothing short of extraordinary.

Over time, a beautiful relationship blossomed. Evie became part of our Tribe, and one by one, amazing support workers joined her team, each bringing their own unique spark, energy, and heart to complement Evie’s shining personality. Together, we’ve laughed, learned, and grown, side by side.

A truly special moment in this journey was when our team began supporting Evie as she started her adventure with Performability, a magical space created by the incomparable Miranda, whose vision and heart have given so many people a place to express themselves through therapy-aligned dance, singing, acting, and music. Miranda herself is a force of nature, inspiring, compassionate, and deeply dedicated to her mission. (Honestly, we’d need an entire blog just to talk about all she’s accomplished!)

When Evie first began attending Performability, she needed full assistance to engage in the activities. But right from the beginning, we could see her potential glowing, just waiting to burst through. Slowly, with care, consistency, and encouragement from her support team, Evie began to bloom.

And bloom she did.

From those early classes where every small movement was a celebration, Evie has grown into a confident, joyful dancer — engaging in classes with increasing independence, and always with her infectious smile. Each step forward, no matter how small, has filled our hearts with pride. It’s these moments, the quiet victories, the shared laughter, the brave new attempts, that remind us why we do what we do.

And then came the big one.

After many dance classes and multiple performances, Evie took to the stage last weekend at the Australian Dance Festival, standing centre stage, under the lights, performing with her class in front of a crowd of over 4,000 people. Make sure you view the video below.

Can you imagine that? A sea of faces, a roar of applause, and our Evie standing tall, dancing not just as a performer, but as a beacon of what inclusion truly looks like. It was more than a performance. It was a celebration of courage, of community, and of the beautiful diversity that dance brings together.

The crowd cheered. We cried. And in that moment, it wasn’t just about the dance. It was about belonging, about possibility, and about the power of saying “yes” to the unknown.

We are so proud of you, Evie.

Thank you for letting us walk alongside you on this journey. Thank you to Carrie for trusting us. To Miranda and the team at Performability, thank you for creating a space where magic happens every single day.

And to Evie, thank you for reminding us what it means to be brave, to try, and to shine. You’ve taught us that stepping up to a challenge, even when it’s scary, is what makes us human. And doing it with joy? That’s what makes it unforgettable.

With all our love and pride,

The Tribe team
