Running Late

And what to do

Purpose

We understand that unexpected delays can occasionally occur due to traffic, road closures, weather or unforeseen circumstances. This guide outlines the correct procedure to ensure participants are kept informed, disruption is minimised and supports continue to be delivered professionally.

What to do

As soon as you become aware that you may be late, safely pull over (if driving) before using your phone.

  1. Contact the participant (or their nominated contact where appropriate) to advise that you are running late and provide an estimated arrival time.

  2. Contact the Tribe office immediately on 0466 222 033 to advise of the delay.

  3. Continue travelling safely and obey all road rules.

  4. If your estimated arrival time changes significantly, update both the participant and the office.

  5. Record your actual start time in ShiftCare at the commencement of your shift.

What Not to Do

Don't wait until your scheduled start time before notifying the participant or office.

  • Don't speed or drive unsafely to make up time.

  • Don't assume a few minutes late doesn't matter.

  • Don't ask the participant to adjust their scheduled finish time without approval from the office.

  • Don't make your own decisions about shortening, extending or altering the support.

Remember

Communication is key. Participants appreciate being kept informed, even if the delay is only a few minutes. Early communication also allows the office to assist with managing expectations, coordinating supports and making alternative arrangements if required.

If you are running significantly late or are unable to attend your shift, the office will guide you on the appropriate next steps.
