Purpose
Effective rostering helps Tribe provide reliable and consistent support to participants while allowing staff to plan ahead. By reviewing and accepting shifts promptly, we create clarity, reduce last-minute changes, and ensure continuity of care for the people we support.
Roster Acceptance Requirements
Tribe aims to publish rosters at least two (2) weeks in advance wherever reasonably possible. This allows participants, families, support workers and the rostering team to plan supports effectively and maintain continuity of care. All support workers are expected to regularly review their roster and accept or decline allocated shifts in a timely manner.
Accepting Your Shifts
Where shifts have been rostered in advance, staff are expected to review and accept those shifts as soon as reasonably practicable.
As a general expectation, shifts should be accepted no later than two (2) weeks prior to the scheduled support where the shift has been available for acceptance during that period.
Shifts should not remain in a pending or unaccepted (red) status when a decision can reasonably be made.
It is not acceptable for shifts to remain unaccepted within 48 hours of the scheduled support unless prior arrangements have been made with the office.
Leaving shifts unaccepted creates uncertainty for participants, families and the rostering team and may result in supports being reallocated to another worker.
Why Is This Important?
Accepting shifts in advance helps:
Provide certainty for participants and families.
Maintain continuity of supports.
Allow the rostering team to identify and fill vacancies early.
Reduce last-minute roster changes and disruptions.
Support efficient workforce planning.
If You Are Unavailable
If you become aware that you cannot work a future shift within the 2 week period, you must notify the office as soon as possible or immediately decline the shift. For shifts scheduled more than two weeks in advance, please update your availability and add any unavailable dates in the ShiftCare app.
Please do not leave shifts sitting in a pending status where a decision can reasonably be made. If you are unsure about a shift allocation, contact the office so we can assist.
Failure to Review and Accept Rosters
Where staff repeatedly fail to review, accept or decline shifts within reasonable timeframes, Tribe may:
Contact the staff member to discuss roster expectations.
Review the staff member's availability and reliability for future supports.
Reallocate individual shifts to other available support workers.
Prioritise future roster allocations to staff who consistently review and respond to their roster.
Review whether ongoing participant supports can continue to be allocated to that staff member.
Our priority is ensuring participants receive consistent, reliable and uninterrupted supports. Repeated failure to respond to roster requests or leaving shifts unaccepted may impact future shift allocations.
